Eligibility for appearing in JEE (Main) – 2017

Date of Birth

Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1992 are eligible. However, in the case of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e. SC, ST and PwD candidates who are born on or after October 01, 1987 are eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will only be considered.

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE)

Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2015 or 2016; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 are eligible to appear in JEE(Main)-2017. Candidates who passed Class 12th /Qualifying examination in 2014 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2018 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)–2017. Candidates who appeared in class 12th/ equivalent qualifying Examinations in 2014, did not pass in 2014, but passed in 2015 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2017.

Number of subjects in the Qualifying Examination (QE)

Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/ qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Main) -2017. The candidates who have taken four subjects are not permitted to write JEE (Main) 2017 and if such candidates appear in JEE (Main) 2017 by furnishing wrong information, their rank/result will not be declared.

Number of Attempts

The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three) .

CANDIDATES ARE ALSO ADVISED TO NOTE AND VERIFY FOR THEMSELVES THE ELIGIBILITY FOR APPEARING IN JEE (ADVANCED) –2017 AS WELL AS ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO VARIOUS INSTITUTES. BEING ELIGIBLE TO WRITE JEE (Main) AND BY OBTAINING AN ALL INDIA RANK IN JEE (Main), A CANDIDATE DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY BECOME ELIGIBLE FOR ADMISSION.

CANDIDATES SEEKING ADMISSION TO THE INSTITUTIONS IN THE STATES OF GUJARAT MADHYA PRADESH NAGALAND AND ODISHA, WHICH WERE EARLIER ADMITTING BASED ON THEIR STATE LEVEL EXAMINATION, ARE ALSO ADVISED TO VERIFY THEIR ELIGIBILITY AS PER CRITERIA LAID DOWN BY THESE STATE GOVERMENTS.

No. of Attempts and Age limit for the states of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha:

Since the states of Madhya Pradesh , Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system from 2014. The age limit, for admission to institutions in these states which were earlier admitting candidates based on their state level examinations, will be as per their past practice only. The number of attempts in such cases will also remain same as per their past practice. This will however be obviously not applicable for admission to IITs/NITs/IIITs/CFTIs.

For admission into Engineering / Technology courses under Lateral Entry for Diploma holders:

  1. Passed or appearing in 2016, in three year diploma examination (two year in case of Lateral entry Diploma) in Engineering from State Council of Technical Education and Training (SCTE&VT), Odisha or from an AICTE approved Institute / from a recognized University as defined by UGC with at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category) in appropriate branch of Engineering / Technology.
  2. The candidate must be a native of Odisha. Results of final diploma examination must be available on the date of document verification during counselling.
  3. There is no reservation of seats in various categories in lateral entry to degree Engineering/Technology (B.Tech) courses. The candidate must submit the Permanent Residence Certificate (Appendix - I) at the time of document verification. The candidate has to submit the Permanent Residence certificate in the prescribed format i.e., Appendix-I issued not earlier than January 2016.

For admission into 1st year Master degree in Computer Application:

Passed or appearing in 2016, for the Bachelor’s Degree examination of minimum three years duration in any discipline from any University of Odisha or from a recognized University as defined by UGC and must have passed in Mathematics at 10+2 level or at Graduate Level. Business Mathematics at +2 level are not permitted.
The candidate should have obtained at least 50% (45% in case of candidate belonging to SC/ST category) at the qualifying Examination.
If the candidate has passed BCA with mathematics as a subject, he/she may appear the entrance test without Mathematics at 10+2 level.
There is no age limit to admission to MCA course.

For admission into Master in Computer Application under Lateral Entry to 2nd year:

Passed or appearing in 2013, for the Bachelor’s Degree examination of minimum three years duration in BCA, B. Sc (IT/ Computer Science) from any University of Odisha or from a recognized University as defined by UGC and must have passed in Mathematics as a course at 10+2 level or at Graduate Level. Business Mathematics at +2 level are not permitted.
The candidate should have obtained at least 50% (45% in case of candidate belonging to SC/ST category) at the qualifying Examination.
There is no age limit to admission to 2nd year MCA under Lateral Entry course.

For admission into 1st year MBA/PGDM :

Passed or appearing in 2016, for the Bachelor’s Degree examination of minimum three years duration in any discipline from any University of Odisha or from a recognized University as defined by UGC/AICTE.

OR

Passed or appearing in 2016, for the Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology / Pharmacy examination of minimum four / five years duration in any discipline from any University of Odisha or from a recognized University as defined by UGC/AICTE. The candidate should have obtained at least 50% marks (45% in case of candidate belonging to SC/ST category) at the qualifying examination.

There is no age limit to for admission to MBA / PGDM course.
